Getting started

What is DadWell?

DadWell is an app for dads-to-be and new dads. It gives you a short guide for each week of your partner’s pregnancy and your baby’s first year, a quick daily check-in to keep track of how you are doing, and, on Plus, a private community of other dads whose babies are due around the same time.

Who is it for?

Anyone aged 18 or over in the UK whose partner is pregnant, or who has a baby under a year old. You do not need to be the birth parent’s husband or live with them. If you are going to be a dad, DadWell is for you.

Is DadWell free?

Yes. The free plan includes the daily check-in, a selection of guides, our pregnancy loss guide and a list of UK support services. Plus unlocks every guide, including past weeks, and the community. There is more about Plus below.

How do I sign up?

Download DadWell from the App Store or Google Play. The app asks a few questions first: whether you are expecting or already a dad, your first name, the due date or your baby’s birth date, and, if you like, your partner’s first name. Then you create an account with your email address and a password, or sign in with Google or Apple.

Why do you need the due date or birth date?

It is how we know which week you are in, so that we can show you the right guide and put you in the right community group. We use it for nothing else. Because a due date shows that someone is pregnant, we treat it as health information and protect it accordingly.

Do I have to give my partner’s name?

No. It is optional, and you can choose “Doing this solo” instead. If you do give it, we only use it to make some of the text you see more personal. We never contact your partner.

Weekly guides

How does DadWell work out my week?

During pregnancy, we count back 40 weeks from the due date, so you move through weeks 1 to 40. Once your baby is born, we count forward from the birth date through weeks 1 to 52. A new week’s guide becomes available as each week begins.

My baby arrived early, or the due date has changed. What should I do?

In Settings, under Your community, you can move the date to another day in the same month. If the new date is in a different month, email support@dadwell.app and we will update it for you. We handle this by hand because it also moves you to a different community group.

Can I read guides from earlier weeks?

Past weekly guides are part of Plus. On the free plan you can read the free guides for your current stage.

Can I share a guide?

Yes. Use the share button on any guide to send a link. The person you send it to sees a preview in their browser, or the full guide in the app if they have it.

Who writes the guides?

Our editorial team. The guides are general information to help you understand what is happening and what might help. They are not medical advice, so please talk to your GP, your partner’s midwife or your health visitor about anything specific to you.

Check-ins

What is a check-in?

Once a day, from Monday to Saturday, the app asks how you are doing. You pick good, okay or tough and can add a note if you want to. It takes a few seconds. Sunday is a day off, and the app shows you a summary of your week instead.

Who can see my check-ins?

Nobody else in the community. Our team does not read them either. We only look at totals across everyone, such as how many check-ins were made in a week.

Where are my check-ins stored?

The first time you open check-ins, the app asks whether to save them to your account. If you say yes, they are stored on our servers, so your history comes with you if you change phones. If you say no, they stay on your phone only and are removed when you sign out or change phones. You can change this at any time in Settings, under Privacy and data.

Can I change or delete a check-in?

Yes. You can edit or delete any check-in from your history.

What happens if I miss a day?

Nothing. We will not chase you. Your streak simply starts again.

What happens if I have a tough week?

If you choose tough every day from Monday to Saturday, the app shows you a list of organisations that can help. Nobody at DadWell is alerted, and nobody is contacted on your behalf. You can also tap “I need some support instead” when choosing your mood at any time. DadWell is not a crisis service and nobody monitors check-ins as they happen. If you or someone else is in danger, call 999. For urgent medical help, call NHS 111. You can talk to Samaritans for free, day or night, on 116 123.

Will I get a reminder?

If you allow notifications and leave check-in reminders switched on, the app sends you a short reminder at around 10am your time. You can turn it off in Settings, under Notifications.

The community

What is the community?

A private space where you can talk to other dads whose babies are due, or were born, in the same month as yours. It is part of Plus, including the free trial.

Do I have to use my real name?

No. Posts are anonymous by default and show a handle such as “anon · #1234” instead of your name. You can switch this off for any post if you want your name to show. Our moderators can always see who wrote a post, so that they can deal with reports.

What are the rules?

When you join, you agree to five guidelines: be kind, be honest, listen first rather than giving unsolicited advice, keep what is shared inside the community, and report anything that feels wrong. Our Terms of Use at dadwell.app/terms set out in more detail what is not allowed.

How do I report something?

Tap the menu next to the post or reply and choose Report. Pick a reason and add more detail if you want. A member of our team reads every report. Nothing happens to the post automatically.

What happens if someone breaks the rules?

Depending on how serious it is, we may remove the post, ban the person from the group for 7, 30 or 90 days or permanently, or suspend their account. We report illegal content to the police where the law requires it or where someone may be at risk.

Can I edit or delete my posts?

Yes. You can edit or delete your own posts and replies at any time. Posts can be up to 500 characters long.

I think a moderation decision about me was wrong. What can I do?

Email support@dadwell.app with “Community complaint” in the subject line and tell us what happened. A person will review it, and we aim to reply within 14 days. If your whole account has been suspended, you can also send an appeal from the suspension screen in the app, once every 24 hours.

Plus and subscriptions

What does Plus include?

Every guide in the library, all weekly guides including past weeks, and the community for your due month.

How much does Plus cost?

• Monthly: £7.99 a month, with a 7-day free trial. • Annual: £49.99 a year, with a 7-day free trial. • Founding 500: £39.99 a year, no free trial, and only for the first 500 members. Your first year lasts 15 months, and it then renews every year at the same price for as long as you stay subscribed without a break. Prices include VAT. You pay through the App Store or Google Play.

How does the free trial work?

You can try Plus Monthly or Plus Annual free for 7 days if you have not had a trial before. We remind you before it ends. If you do not cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the trial, your subscription starts and the store charges you. On some stores, cancelling during the trial ends your access to Plus straight away.

How do I cancel?

• iPhone: open the Settings app, tap your name, tap Subscriptions, then choose DadWell. • Android: open Google Play, tap your profile picture, tap Payments and subscriptions, then Subscriptions, then choose DadWell. You keep Plus until the end of the period you have paid for. Deleting the app or your DadWell account does not cancel your subscription, so please cancel through the store.

Can I get a refund?

Apple and Google take the payment, so refunds are made by them. For Apple, go to reportaproblem.apple.com. For Google Play, request a refund through Google Play, or email us and we will help. Under UK consumer law you may also be able to cancel within 14 days of buying. Our Terms of Use explain how that works.

I have changed phones. How do I get Plus back?

Sign in with the same DadWell account and the same App Store or Google Play account you bought Plus with, then tap Restore purchase on the plans screen.

We have experienced a pregnancy loss. What happens to my account?

We are so sorry. You can keep using DadWell, including our pregnancy loss guide and the organisations listed with it, such as Sands and Tommy’s. If you would like to stop your subscription or close your account, email support@dadwell.app. We will help you with whatever you need, including any refund request to the store, and you will not need to explain.

Notifications

What notifications does DadWell send?

Only the ones you switch on: check-in reminders, replies to your posts, community updates, new guides, your weekly guide, product updates and news from us. You can switch each one on or off in Settings, under Notifications.

Your privacy and your data

Do you sell my data or show adverts?

No. We do not sell your information, there are no adverts in DadWell, and the app contains no advertising or analytics tracking tools. Our Privacy Policy at dadwell.app/privacy explains everything we collect and why.

Can I get a copy of my data?

Yes. In Settings, choose Export your data. We email you your information as CSV files, which open in any spreadsheet app, within 24 hours. You can request an export once every 7 days.

How do I delete my account?

In Settings, choose Delete account and follow the steps. Your account closes straight away, and you have 7 days to change your mind by signing in again. After that it is permanently deleted. We email you the day before. If you no longer have the app, see dadwell.app/delete-account.

Your account

I have forgotten my password.

On the sign-in screen, tap Forgot password. We email you a code, which you enter in the app before choosing a new password. If you signed up with Google or Apple, there is no DadWell password. Just sign in with the same option again.

How do I change my password?

If you signed up with an email address, go to Settings, then Account and security.

Why has my account been suspended?

We suspend accounts when our Terms of Use have been broken. The suspension screen shows the reason and when it ends. If you think we have got it wrong, you can appeal from that screen.

Getting help

How do I contact you?

Email support@dadwell.app. We reply to questions about your information and your privacy rights within one month, as the law requires, and we usually reply to everything else much sooner.

Where can I find support if I am struggling?

In Settings, under Support and resources, you will find a short list of UK services for dads. If you need to talk to someone now, you can call Samaritans free on 116 123 at any time. In an emergency, call 999.
